UPDI-DAC Series DI Water Heaters

Ultrapure DI Water Heater with Demand Anticipation Control (DAC).

Sophisticated temperature/flow algorithm for precise Lufran® Ultra Pure DI Heater Control

BENEFITS

PLATFORM

The Lufran® UPDI - DAC™ starts with the semiconductor process proven Lufran® Ultra Pure DI Water Heater with its patented purged heating method.

WHY DAC™?

Although PID based temperature control has been a standard for process control, its applications are usually limited to steady state control. To overcome control sluggishness associated with quickly changing flows, Process Technology/Lufran® has developed DAC™, "Demand Anticipation Control."

PERFORMANCE COMPARISON

Measuring temperature performance directly at the DI Water Heater outlet (before any compensating mix values) gives you a true performance comparison. The DAC™ vs. conventional PID control chart illustrates the improved performance of the DAC™ control.

Infra Red heating may be slightly faster, but the offset is higher maintenance cost. Steam may look better after the required mixing values, but its actual response is very sluggish.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In a standard system when flow changes occur, the control sensor "waits" to react to a temperature change and adjusts power accordingly. DAC™ utilizes several inputs to calculate the power required for the application in real time. The parameters monitored include inlet fluid temperature, outlet fluid temperature, and flow rate. From these values the required power is calculated and immediately applied as a percentage of available heater power.

DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS

Flow rates begin at 1 LPM and go up. DI water heating from 3 kW to 260 kW.

DAC™ CONTROL INCLUDES

a) Standard Input/Output modules feed sensor-input signals to a Windows® based computer.
b) Proven power switch gear (now with solid state relays) as used on Lufran® UPDI heater since 1982.
c) DAC™ software calculates & compares required power, percent of power required, low temp boost, and high temp shut-off, along with safety check parameters.

SET POINTS AND WATER CONSERVATION

DAC™ allows for set point changes directly from the keyboard. Remote access of any of the control parameters can be added. An additional pre-flow bypass function can be added with an optional value sequencing system. With pre-flow/by-pass, the software allows you to pre-select value operation for time and temperature sequencing while flowing to your recirculation loop for water conservation.
