For
inline direct or indirect heating applications, the H2OT
SHOT from Process Technology is a uniquely designed, compact, self-contained
heater system which produces on-demand, precisely regulated water or process
chemistry.
SYSTEM DESIGN
Process Technology's instantaneous DI water heater utilizes a unique (patented) axial flow element to maximize heat transfer and minimize holdup volume and residence time. Due to this design, fluid velocities are relatively high, eliminating stagnant zones and potential sites for biological growth. As an example, total volume of 48 kW unit is 24 ounces, and, at a flow rate of 5 gpm, yields a residence time of only 2.2 seconds.
Physical size of the system is extremely compact: 48 kW units require just three cubic feet for installation, about as much space as a typical electrical disconnect enclosure.

FEATURES
CONTROL
The H2OT SHOT series of DI water heaters uses a full-featured PID microprocessor based temperature control to regulate outlet water temperature. The standard controller burst fires the solid state relays to do the actual switching of power. An optional zero-cross firing package is available. The control is factory programmed to the customer's specifications. An RS-485 communications port and software are available to allow down-loading of programmable parameters to a PC.
SAFETY
Process Technology values product safety and has incorporated many proven safety systems into the H2OT SHOT line of DI water heaters as standard. Each system has grounded heating elements and control circuitry. In addition, a GFP provides protection for the entire system. The complete system in housed in NEMA 12 rated electrical enclosures with lockouts. To ensure product and personnel safety, the following safeties are standard:
OPERATION
The operation of the H2OT SHOT system is very simple. All the operator is required to do is turn the circuit breaker to the ON position, flip the power toggle switch and depress the start button. The unit is now ready for service. Whenever the machine or process that is being supplied calls for hot water, the H2OT SHOT automatically turns on and supplies heated water. When the outlet valve closes, the unit removes power from the elements and discharges a small volume of water to a drain in order to cool the heater elements and prevent overshoot on the subsequent heating cycle.
Typically, all programming is done at the factory per the customer's specifications. Information required upon ordering would include:
CHARACTERIZATION
The H2OT SHOT heater line has been tested for ionic contamination and trace metals by Balazs Analytical laboratory. Sixty-seven trace metals were tested for, from aluminum to zirconium. A detailed copy of the report is available upon request.
APPLICATIONS
Inline Heating (Single Pass System)
This is the most common application. Ambient temperature water is supplied to
the heater "inline" to a process requiring hot water, such as a spray rinse
tank, counter flow rinse system, batch chemical mixing, parts washers, etc.
Indirect Heating (Recirculating System)
Indirect heating is used where precise temperature control must be maintained in
a heat exchange system, as in heating temperature-sensitive compounds or process
chemistry. Some chemistries, such as electroless nickel, can be recirculated
directly through the heater.
